bite beauty Amuse Bouche Gazpacho Rhubarb review

A few months ago Bite Beauty announced that they were discontinuing their (very popular) Luminous Crème line.  Like many Bite fans I went through the Five Stages of Loss & Grief, with one caveat.  First I was excited to see them in the Sephora sale section, then I was in denial (they can’t be doing this to me!), anger (how could they?!?), Bargaining (Well at least they are on sale… maybe the new product will just be a slight tweak…maybe it’s just new packaging? Why would they change the packaging?! I love the packaging…), Depression (But I loved that lipstick…) and finally Acceptance.  Only when I say “acceptance” what I really mean is “wow are these fantastic”.

If you read my blog from time to time, you will know that I love a good opaque lipstick.  Given that I have tried most lipsticks available at Sephora and have a pretty impressive/embarrassing collection of higher end lipsticks I think I am in a pretty good place to judge.  This is the first time in a while that I have been genuinely, genuinely impressed by a new lipstick release and to be honest, there isn’t one thing about the formula that I would change.  And man, I loved the Luminous Creme.

Currently the collection includes 40 shades, with everything from a metallic indigo, luminous nudes, bold reds, pastel purples, and everything else in between.  I’ve heard that some of the new shades are quite similar to previous shades, but I can’t really speak to that because most of my old Bite lipsticks were limited edition releases.

“A collection of high-impact lipsticks in dimensional shades that have been handcrafted to deliver extreme moisture, soft texture, and creamy wear.”

“Swipe on bold, creamy lip color with Bite Beauty’s Amuse Bouche. Created and crafted by hand, Bite’s small batch, low-heat process preserves a balanced blend of lip-quenching nutrients, vitamins, and omega oils that are essential for achieving healthy-looking lips. Made with 12 edible oils and triple milled pigments, this lipstick provides saturated lip color with weightless coverage and a citrus flavor made from fresh pressed fruit.”

Whereas their previous formula felt like a very nice, good quality crème lipstick, this collection has more of a gel texture with a satin finish.  After one swipe my lips are left basically opaque, so there really is no need to build this up.  As it fades it leaves behind a powerful stain, making this a long wearing lipstick.

Embossed with the classic Bite Beauty “B” on the side, this lipstick has a satisfyingly sharp point and a tangy citrus scent.   It is probably the most unique lipstick scent I have tried—very different from the standard vanilla.

Gazpacho

Described as a “true blue red”, I love how bright and bold this lipstick is.  I really do think that this would be flattering on almost any skin tone, and I love how it fades into a stain.

Rhubarb

Described as a “rich plum rose”, I expected this to be more of a neutral.  I personally find it a bit too dark for every day wear, though I think it could work well in the winter.  While it isn't what I expected, I do still really like this colour.  I probably should have bought "Pepper" but I love plummy rose shades and thought this would be a bit lighter.  I actually find that the lipstick in the bullet isn't really a good indication of how it looks on the lips, so I would suggest doing considerable research before ordering online... or just going to the store to swatch it.

Gazpacho, Rhubarb

Currently on my wish list: Pepper, Sake, GTA (limited edition red shade) (and basically all the rest if we are being honest).

Have you tried these lipsticks?  What do you think of the new formula?

PS-- I wanted to add that another CBB member stumbled across this on Instagram... is this amazing or what?!
