Recently Essie launched their Summer 2016 collection, and I am here today reviewing a few minis from their most recent launch.  How perfect are these bright & bold hues for summer? Keep reading for my review & swatches!

You can learn more about the "behind the scenes" of this collection on their newly redesigned website.  Looking at this collection, it just feels like summer at the beach: playful, bright, bold. Searching through the website I learned that this collection is inspired by Central America's most diverse country: Guatemala! I love learning about the inspiration behind this collection. It really is more than just picking a pretty colour and slapping a name on it.  Now, on to the swatches.  That shimmering aqua shade is calling my name!

Berried Treasure

Berried Treasures was inspired by "colourful roadside fruit stands, overstuffing your bright woven tote, and upping your sunny fashion game with vivid market finds".  This playful berry pink is bright and bold.  Perfect for a summer manicure or pedicure.  Maybe its just me, but I find this colour much more flattering on my with a nice tan.  I love that the creme formula is full coverage in two coats and leaves behind a high gloss finish.

Viva Antigua!

This shimmering aqua was inspired by "sparkling turquoise sundresses, dancing to the beat of your own marimba, and striking out on a style itinerary all your own".  Without a doubt this is my favourite colour of this collection-- I am wearing it on my nails as I type this. I love the multi-dimensional shimmer and how summery this shade is.  This polish looks best with three coats, in my opinion.  Perfect for sitting by the pool, or walking along the beach. Love, love, love!

Coconut Cove

Coconut Cove was inspired by "kicked-off white sandy sandals, hitching a ride from the city to the seaside, and living off the margaritas for the day because "when in Antigua...".  I am really impressed by this (slightly) off white polish.  Two coats and it is glossy and full coverage.  This really is the perfect white to go with a tan because it has just a touch of warmth rather than being a stark white.

Loot the Booty

This shimmering deep blue was inspired by "hidden paradise sapphire, dodging urban pirates, and scavenging for souvenir treasures to bring home".  This colour is a little bit outside of the traditional "summer nail polish" box, and I love it.  Deep blue, shimmering, it reminds me of the deep ocean, and of the sky on a warm summer night.  I think this polish can easily be worn well into the fall and winter.

Over all I really enjoyed this collection.  I have always been a fan of Essie nail polishes (maybe one day I should do a post featuring my full collection?) and enjoy picking one up every so often when I end up at the drug store.  I recently purchased their 1000th shade-- a brilliant, bright yellow.

Essie polishes retail for about $10 and are sold at drugstores across Canada.

All swatch photos show two coats of polish, unless otherwise noted.

Don't forget to check out their website and enter for your chance to win a whole bunch of polish!
